What happens if Segwit doesn't activate?

We'll be back to square one or will core and everyone else reach some sort of compromise between segwit and unlimited ? Maybe core will concede a bit and make a new version of segwit with incorporated unlimited ? via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/2gpBDcM
