I realize I'm very late to educate myself about many aspects of crypto. I'll jump right in and share a thought I had regarding desktop mining - and I would love to hear any input.
A friend of mine introduced me to Crypto Tab, you most likely are familiar - a browser that uses some of your everyday laptops resources and converts it into micro fractions of bitcoin. He sent me the link https://get.cryptobrowser.site/2996361 and I've been using it for a few days while I browse on Google Chrome - so far I've earned 5 cents.
So on the surface it's clearly not worth it, let's be realistic I can't mine any valuable amount of bitcoin - but the key is, it's simple, anyone can use it and do it, so I thought - I could get my family and friends to do this while they browse online - they don't need to be crypto experts.
This is when I realized the true purpose of the site, it's not to run it on your laptop, well it is that, but it's mainly to find people who will run it on their laptops and will also find even more people who will run it on theirs.
So this is a pyramid scheme - but there are two major differences I could think of that makes this interesting. 1) There is no cost (aside from the cost of electricity and "wear and tear" on your laptop, you have no monthly membership fee and no up front costs to join - most pyramid schemes rely on this upfront income to continually spread around between members - in this case, there's no need. 2) There is no effort required to participate. Most pyramid schemes would need you to sell a product, and all of the work that goes along with that is on you - in this case, aside from sharing the link with friends, there's really no effort - just opening a new tab while you browse.
So I can't see any real downside to trying this out - there's no ethical reason not to suggest this to my friends and family, if there is can anyone think of it? I think the best way to frame this, is if you click on this link https://get.cryptobrowser.site/2996361 you have the ability to start your own pyramid - I'm trying to be open and honest.
And with that, the people you share your link with - now have the ability to start their own pyramid, and so on and so forth. No one has anything to lose, and if you happen to be online browsing you can earn a fraction of bitcoin overtime perhaps an entire coin - which (from my perspective) could be worth 10 or 100 times what it is worth today.
Would love to hear any thoughts - I encourage you to at least consider the positive and negative potential repercussions, and please share them with me!
I also realize there are other more efficient ways to mine crypto - but this is so easy my grandparents could do it, and so could their friends, and I don't think anything about opening a new tab on google chrome would scare them away or anything.
Here's the link again, again it's crypto tab and from the research I've done, no malicious code or cookies or anything, just a bitcoin faucet that has a pyramid type reward metric built in.
