750k, 935k and 950k are common soft limits. Blocks under 10k bytes are so-called "empty blocks" from SPV mining.

No conclusions, just facts.

Alex Petrov of Bitfury: "High-fee spam attack/flooding of BTC" is the cause of current mempool backlog

Core: This scaling issue is going to get worse and worse until a) block increase is on roadmap or b) community forks

...and there comes a point in time where a) still won't prevent b) from happening.

Why is there still no formal timeframe for HF to larger block on the roadmap?

EDIT: Thank you to /u/eragmus for coming in and starting a productive conversation

High fees create centralization pressure

While using Bitcoin to pay for an order on Overstock, it occured to me that I could save the transaction fee if I had a coinbase wallet. This would have made it a free, coinbase-internal transaction as they are processing Overstock's Bitcoin payments. In other words: once fees start to hurt, frequent Bitcoin users will flock to whatever integrated wallet provider is most popular, creating a classic "winner takes it all" scenario. Once that happens, you can kiss decentralization goodbye.

Q: If you had a food truck, would you do zero confirmation transactions?

Hey, I'm pretty new to Bitcoin, like less than a year, and I have a small food cart that sells items for between 4-6 dollars. I do pretty solid sales already, and for the spring/summer coming up I want to offer Bitcoin payments. Any opinions on how bad the fraud would be if I just did zero confirmation transactions? I think it'll be mostly a gimmick and not much of the sales will happen this way, and at 4$ an order I'm not out much...unless I get screwed every time. Thanks for your opinions! via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/21DZuqg

So miner centralization is bad, but user centralization is just fine?

If Core is advocating keeping blocksize small "to avoid miner centralization". In turn, this would turn Bitcoin into a settlement network, which reduces the number of end-users who can afford to settle directly on the blockchain. (If you say LN, same question applies, it would depend on a more centralized system)Can someone with understanding of Core's vision explain this logic to me? via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/21wEKEl

Question about solo mining

Hello, I have 6 s7 miners and I looked at their statistics and saw that they found 20 blocks in one week. Is it worth to solo mine for example in antpool solo mine? or to mine solo? Will the reward be bigger or should I just stick to mining in a pool? maybe someone can explain to me how does antpool solo mining work? Thank you

I have a few old Casascius bitcoins. How do I keep them in good shape? Should I have them graded and slabbed?

Related info:Some are 2012 brass. I also have a couple silver ones from 2013.Yes, they are loaded. The brass ones are in OK condition. No great, but not terrible. They don't look shiny like when they were new.The silver ones look pretty shiny. They came in a clear plastic case.I keep them in a small felt-lined box, hidden away in a safe place.I noticed these seem to have gone up in value quite a bit since I bought them. The reason I ask is because the brass ones don't look as good to me as they used to. I don't want the silver ones to lose their shine. My questions:Am I doing something wrong in the storage on my coins? If I have them graded, will that help the value? (I don't want to if I don't need to. But if it's the only way to preserve them, I will.)Will the silver ones be OK in their little plastic case (the one that they came in), or should I worry about tarnish? Will the brass ones get worse?edit: Added a questionnote: Throwaway account, but of course I'll check back for answers. I have 13.6 Btc and another $5000 cash saved, but I am going to prison for 3 years in about a month. I am trying to decide whether or not to put the rest of my money into bitcoin before I go away. Please help me decide. I feel like a paper wallet would be safer than a bunch of cash. Less noticeable and harder to spend. Anyways let me know what you think? Why or why not? Is it worth to make my own pool? Is it really worth it?

I have my own antminer devices, I have a big farm and I currently use antpool and f2pool to earn my btc. I have some questions to put on the table:

I have more than 200 Th/s of mining powers. That's the equivalent of around 20 s7 antminer decides, so is it worth to make my own pool to try to get my own blocks? How easy is it?

And also is it better to mine in the top top pools or is is really worth to mine on lower pools?

Do you think users should be able to vote on the blocksize debate?

One of the ideas that's came out of Satoshi Roundtable is that we should add transaction voting. This would allow users to add flags to their transactions to indicate if they support a proposal on block size. This would enable the developers more confidence in deploying some of these changes.Note this would use things like coin age to ensure someone could not move a bunch of coins around multiple times to influence the vote. Technicals and attacks can be handled in another thread. Just want to know what the community thinks at a higher level. via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/1TJeoc6

Anyone know anything about prices or distributors using the new bitfury chips?

From what I know it seems like bitfury is selling these new chips around march to people actually making the complete miner. This meaning the miners with these new chips would be sold by a third party.

Anyone know if any company has released specs or prices with these chips? I hope they are selling some to home miners.

Side note: The immersion cooling thing there doing seems hella cool, and efficient. vid here

Could bitcoin allow for strangers to split the cost of subscription to a website/web service?

I think it would be great if people could share in the cost of a subscription to a website that requires a login. I know I could do this with some friends, but if my friends aren't interested in signing up for something only I have an interest in like worthpoint, then I'm stuck dealing with strangers if I want to split the cost.

I'm not very good at computers, but it seemed like this might be a good application for smart contracts. Anyway, just a thought. Thanks.

bitaddress.org key format changed

I used to get private keys starting with 5 but noticed that they now start with a letter, so i checked and it seems both public and private key on this site have changed format, what is the reason behind the change and is this site still safe?

thanks

Good experiment. Looks like we have to decide also, already and enjoy the ride. #ScaleBitcoin
