Screw the stigma. As I was perusing an indiscrete website of my preference I once again contemplated what it would be like to actually pay for porn. Usually its not much of a problem to get off on free porn, but in my particular case I (and my GF) have been into Virtual Reality Porn for a while. And that isn't yet as widespread as you'd think. Not to mention the torrent files for any you can find are hefty (5-10 GB for 45mins).
As I was looking at the price for a subscription I noticed they accepted cryptocurrencies and as they were using CoinGate, they also had Lightning Network enabled. Figured that was as good a moment as any to do my first mainnet LN payment.
What's the benefit of doing this over LN? Well, I can resub every month without paying any mainchain fee. There's also no bank statements to speak of, and being closely involved with my bank for financing my business projects, I appreciate the privacy. Third, setting up a recurring payment is difficult with crypto, so I don't have to worry about forgetting about the subscription, only to find out months later that I've been charged behind my back for a service I didn't use anymore. I personally hate recurring payment nonsense. I want control over my money, not give control to some random corp on another continent.
So there you have it, my first steps. Wasn't difficult at all, lightning payment itself was instant. If there's other VR enthousiasts with a simultaneous love for crypto out there, shoot me a pm. Don't want to mention the website here, that would be a plug. Got to say, watching 1000 VR porn vids on a wireless Virtual Headset (Oculus Go) paid for with Lightning feels pretty much like the future. Can't wait to see where both techs are going.
