After the halving in may will you mine a different crypto?

After the halving in may will you continue to mine bitcoin or will you most likely switch to a different alt coin for profit?

I was looking into getting a dedicated bitmain s17+ but am a bit worried about the halving and what that would mean to someone trying to mine without a big mining farm.

What would be your advice at this point?

Guide on how to harvest losses before the end of the year and reduce your tax bill

Engaging in tax loss harvesting with your cryptocurrency assets is one of the single most effective ways to reduce your tax bill for the year. It’s no secret that cryptocurrencies are extremely volatile. This and a number of other characteristics make it an unusually effective candidate for tax loss harvesting strategies. This guide outlines what tax loss harvesting is, how you can use it to reduce your bitcoin and crypto tax liability.Tax Loss Harvesting - What Is It?Tax Loss Harvesting is the practice of selling a capital asset at a loss to offset a capital gains tax liability. By realizing or “harvesting” a loss, investors are able to offset taxes on both gains and income. This is a tax reduction strategy commonly used in the world of stocks and securities. An ExampleJohn buys $1,000 of Apple stock and $2,000 of Tesla stock in a given year. While holding these investments, the value of John’s Apple stock rises to $1,500 while Tesla drops to $1,700. John sells all of his Apple stock for $1,500.Without Tax Loss HarvestingWithout harvesting his losses in Tesla stock, John has a $500 capital gain for the year from the sale of his Apple stock. John pays taxes on all $500 of this capital gain. With Tax Loss HarvestingRather than continuing to hold his Tesla stock, John can harvest his losses in Tesla by selling before year-end. Capital gains and losses get summed together for the year resulting in either a net gain or loss. John’s net capital gain is now only $200 for the year ($500 - $300). In this scenario, John only pays taxes on $200 of net capital gains rather than $500.Tax Loss Harvesting With CryptocurrenciesCryptocurrencies are treated as property for tax purposes, exactly the same as stocks. This means that you can also strategically sell/trade crypto to harvest losses and reduce your tax liability. Unlike stocks however, cryptocurrencies have unique characteristics that make them even better candidates for tax loss harvesting. We discuss these below. Wash Sale RulesA wash sale results when you incur a capital loss, and then buy the same security back within a 30-day window before or after the capital loss is incurred. This rule is designed to prevent investors from taking capital losses in one year and then immediately buying back the stock. The IRS specifically states that wash sale rules only apply to securities. Cryptocurrencies are property, not securities, as defined by IRS guidance. This means that wash sales rules do not apply to cryptocurrency at this time.VolatilityCryptocurrencies are extremely volatile—more so than traditional assets. This volatility means that investors regularly have opportunities to realize and harvest capital losses. The difficult part for investors is identifying which of their cryptocurrencies in their portfolio have the highest cost basis (original purchase price) when compared to the current market price. These are the assets that present the greatest opportunity for tax savings. CryptoTrader.Tax has a tax loss harvesting tool built into the app that allows users to automatically identify which of their cryptocurrencies present the greatest loss harvesting opportunity. An ExampleAmy has made $15,000 in capital gains from investing in the stock market this year. Amy has also been investing in cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, XRP, and Ethereum. In December, Amy imports her cryptocurrency transactions into CryptoTrader.Tax and notices that her investments are down over $20,000 for the year. To harvest these losses, Amy trades all of her cryptocurrencies into Litecoin (thus incurring a taxable event and realizing her losses). Amy’s losses in cryptocurrency complete offset all of her stock market gains, and she’s left with a $5,000 capital loss for the year.Net Capital Losses Up to $3,000 Offset Ordinary IncomeWhenever total capital gains and losses for the year add up to a negative number, a net capital loss is incurred. If the net capital loss is less than or equal to $3,000 ($1,500 if you are married and filing a separate tax return), then that entire capital loss can be used to offset other types of income—like the income from your job. Net losses exceeding $3,000 are rolled forward to subsequent years.  December 31st is the Cutoff - Time is of The Essence! It is important to keep in mind that the tax year ends on Dec. 31st—even though the filing deadline isn’t until April 15th. This means that you must harvest your losses prior to the end of the year if you want them to impact that year’s taxes. Many investors delay only to realize that they could have saved money on their tax bill if they would have sold or realized losses back in December. By then it’s too late. via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/39qX34s

!!!! COINSWITCH & EXODUS SCAMMED 6500 EURO !!!! CoinSwitch took 6500 Euro Hostage and refuse to Return after KYC / Money swapped over Exodus

Hello everybody,

My Situation:Im a User of the Exodus Wallet, I wanted to swap my coins from bitcoin cash to bitcoin.

So I’ve informed myself in the web and read everywhere the Advertising of Exodus that they are not doing KYC and that theire % are a bit higher because they are taking care about all the Exchange Process.

And also giving Support if everything goes wrong. So ive decided I will swap the coins in Exodus for the extra %.

What happened to me?I’ve swapped bch worth 4500 EUR and 2000 EUR to btc. After I didn’t received them for a Couple Hours I’ve checked the Status. In Exodus was written CONTACT US. So I’ve contacted Exodus.

Exodus told me they have no Idea what happened and I should contact Coinswitch, they dont do the Exchanges by themselves, they are using coinswitch for this and get 50-70% Commission.

So I’ve contacted Coinswitch in the Chat anonym and ask them if they are doing KYC, because also Coinswitch is advertising themselves that they are not doing any KYC.

https://preview.redd.it/34lf38rdnx741.png?width=712&format=png&auto=webp&s=e2a1b8b584d42c6da90be26cc017de9a12922c31

Theire Answer again was:No we are not doing KYC. So I was starting to google and found many Threads where People write, that Coinswitch refuse to return theire Funds without KYC, even when Coinswitch write in theire Terms, that they return the Money without KYC in maximum 72 hours. So I asked them to return my Funds. They told me they will not return them, I have to do KYC. So I was fuck it!

https://preview.redd.it/u9ci1py2nx741.png?width=2882&format=png&auto=webp&s=ca0ffa4fa735126f864401d09449bde2a518c4fa

  • I did KYC, KYC got verified on theire Homepage.
  • After they told me they will not return my Coins they need an additional Video - I did it.
  • Than they told me its not enough, they need to see the origin of the Funds, I’ve showed them where I bought the Coins with Screens.
  • Was not enough, they wanted more, I’ve had to do for them a Screenrecording from the Place where I bought them, you can see theire also my High Reputation and many positive Feedbacks and exactly this 2 Transactions.

Cool, now they should release my Coins after Striping down to my Underwear? Now they didn’t.

But after my Post on Reddit, and some People reaching out to Exodus on Twitter, Sebastian the COO of Exodus contacted me and promised me he will do everything to solve it immediately.

That he was also talking to the Leadership of Coinswitch and the Problem will soon be resolved, and he understand that all this is not acceptable and so on.

Result?CoinSwitch is not interested in the safety of any User or in General KYC. They just hope, that theire Clients are not doing KYC and they can keep the Money.

Even if you do KYC they refuse to return the Money. Exodus is also not helping anything just Fraud-Bait-Fishing with the Advertising that there is no KYC.

BitMart is a scam

Don't be stupid like I was and deposit crypto into the BitMart exchange because you will never get it back. They allow you to deposit without KYC but then they require KYC to withdraw and they have a ridiculous KYC process (a million different things, selfies, etc, all of which I provided)... they will just keep rejecting what you provided for stupid reasons. Basically they use the KYC process as a tool to prevent users from ever withdrawing their crypto.

Something awesome just happened

So I went to this Bitcoin ATM Today to get some more btc and as soon as I approach said ATM a slightly elderly woman approaches me and asks if I knew how this works. With a smile I asked what she needed and she said she has to send a certain amount of cash to a btc address until tonight.Sure thing, I can help you with that!A bright smile showed up on her face as she told me the other people at this Western Union were pretty unfriendly and she can’t really believe how friendly I reacted.I smiled back and we started the process of getting cash into the ATM, get it on to her wallet and send it to the address she wanted it sent to.She was incredibly friendly, we talked a little and when all was done, she asked if she could do me any favor. I said I helped without expecting something in return and that I’m really thankful for her offer but I’m free of any wishes. She then gave me a hug and said thank you very much with a bright smile. It was the best encounter with another person I had Today. What an awesome day! via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/358ocWs

Bitcoin ATMs are a good start. Improved wallet GUI and ease-of-use is even better. We need to continue to focus on usability and adoption.

Bitcoin is reaching a point in its development where I think it is time we focus on ease-of-use features of Bitcoin for the average Jane and Joe.It's not like it was back when we had to manually handle addresses and run our own nodes. People don't want to have to invest time or effort in order to benefit from something. Most folks don't even care about how it works or why. They only care about what Bitcoin can do for them.Bitcoin is safe. Bitcoin is easy. Bitcoin is for everyone.Just recently I saw a conversation on Facebook where a lot of people were having issues with Square, Etsy, Paypal, etc for banning them because they were selling mature items, or items related to "witchcraft" or w/e.These are exactly the people we need to target for adoption. People operating legal, but marginalized, operations in need of financial services. We have to reach for the low-hanging fruit first, and the easiest sell is going to be to people who can't buy anything else worth having. Go for people who have trouble participating in the legitimate money system and we'll find our next adoptive group.Point out that accepting and sending payments is as easy as 3 steps.Download a wallet app like Coinomi, or w/e you like to recommend.Set up a wallet by writing down a 12 word seed phrase in a safe location.Start accepting & sending payments!Offer to accept Bitcoin as payment for small favors, even if you know they don't have any. Somebody needs to pay you back for lunch? Gas money? Say you accept cash & Bitcoin. Keep it on people's minds. via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/2rEbfWJ
