Today ends my term as Executive Director of the Bitcoin Foundation

After a solid run at this, last month I informed the board that I'd like to close out my term. After an extensive search, I'm happy to say that the Bitcoin Foundation has appointed a serious and qualified person as the new Executive Director, venture capitalist Llew Claasen.

I came in to the foundation to turn it around. I think I accomplished that as well as anyone could have under the circumstances. As an unpaid, volunteer position the role was never intended to be permanent.

I'm proud of what the Bitcoin Foundation accomplished during my leadership. When I came aboard the organization had been through some very tough times with its very future in doubt. It was perhaps it's darkest hour. Today as I leave, the foundation is the best it's been in years, possibly ever.

Together we did an amazing turnaround that increased transparency, cut expenses to by 94% from peak month to month spending, created and clarified our mission, saw us host two successful DEVCORE events, launched the speakers bureau and press service, eliminated all outstanding foundation debts and moved forward with a highly qualified and unified board of directors.

Like the board, I did the work as a volunteer and even contributed my own funds as a donation. We also have a great group of tireless volunteers. I depart with the foundation not only having paid off its debts but with more capital than when I started. We now leave this particular position in qualified hands and think that Llew will not only continue the momentum of the turnaround but firmly believe he will do an even better job than I did.

As he leads this organization going forward I hope you'll join me in supporting him and wishing for his success. This organization is here and if you are involved in Bitcoin then the foundation belongs to you.
