Can you buy partial bitcoins and store them in a paper wallet?

If I have $2000 to spend on BTC, can I still store "partial bitcoin" in my own paper wallet?

I've done some searching and can't seem to verify if this is true or not. Not sure if you need to own a full coin before it goes into your wallet. Any help is appreciated.
