Not updating Ledger a risk to his Bitcoin?

My father has some Bitcoin on a Ledger Nano S that hasn't been firmware updated since 2017. Is there any danger of losing the Bitcoin by not updating the Ledger by now or over the next couple of years? via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/2JN0g4N
