I have an answer for the age old question: if Bitcoin was mainstream how much would you need to be well off.

So I once saw someone say that 0.1BTC won’t make you rich and they might be right. The answer I got to be well off is about 0.4BTC if Bitcoin were to take the spot of second place in world currency. So if it were to not over throw the IS US dollar but take over the place of euros (the runner up) and you wanted to have about 5 years of upper middle class income saved up, then 0.4 BTC would do it. Spot ETF Approval = Capitulation?

Does anyone else feel like we're standing at the precipice of something huge and beautiful?

The SEC has done an admirable job defending the U.S market and dollar hegemony against an adversary like Bitcoin. I, like many of you, have awaited prior ETF decisions only to feel the punch to the gut of yet another denial...

Despite our philosophies on how Bitcoin should be used and custodied - you cannot deny that it's difficult for institutions and countries to trust and use. We're not talking sats here, we're talking millions and billions of funds that can flow in and out of this asset in moments. We're talking personal investments, corporate treasuries, retirement accounts, sovereign wealth funds and more...

Back in my day, I used to work for a fund manager that had billions in assets under management. There were times when we had to be careful to coordinate massive inflows and outflows so as to minimize disrupting the assets we were purchasing or selling.

An approval feels near and almost inevitable. Part of my reasoning for this is that it's becoming in the best interest for the U.S. government and regulators to start embracing Bitcoin as a hedge against the inevitable decline of the U.S. dollar. The petrodollar is almost gone, what's our next chess move?

When a spot ETF is approved, Bitcoin will move. I think it will move big due to its scarcity, but what do y'all think?

I’m not sure whether I should be learning more about Bitcoin or learning how to defend my stance.

It’s very discouraging. I can’t educate others on BTC because It’s come to the point where I don’t even want to mention the word Bitcoin anymore. So many people just see Bitcoin as a price on an exchange. I just had people tell me “it’s worth nothing” or “it’s a scam.” Im a college student, and even my math professors at my own school are against it. If Bitcoin is not convenient for them, then they won’t BOTHER learning what it is.

I spent this summer learning about Bitcoin. Here’s my definition:

Bitcoin is just another evolution of a payment system. Instead of moving money through an institution, you are moving money through a network. Instead of being assigned an account number, you're assigned a bitcoin address. Instead of the banks being in control of your money, you are now in control of your money.

Bitcoin is a movement. With Bitcoin, you can send money to anyone in the world, at anytime, without a third party. That last sentence is something called decentralization. There are about 2 billion people in the world who don't have a bank account. With Bitcoin, you don't need a bank account to send money. All you need is internet. Bitcoin is not only a movement, it's the solution. However, today Bitcoin is seen more as a store of value since there is no high-scale adoption yet.

That’s all I really have for my rant. Even though I just started my Bitcoin journey, I think I still have a long way to go. But as much as I want to help educate other people, I think I’ll just stay in my own lane for now.

How to deal with a person who wants to "take down crypto people" in conversation?

I'll be heading to a small wedding with my partner and I've been told that one of her friends is strongly against the use of crypto and bitcoin for many reasons (mostly for environmental and energy use concerns) and has been noted as saying that she loves to "take down crypto bros" in conversation. I have no intention of satisfying this person's argumentative desire. I don't really try to hide the fact that I use bitcoin either.
Any advice for how to deal with these kinds of people?

I asked "write a script for a tv show where 2 characters are guessing what the price of bitcoin will be in the year 2030, the guesses for price of bitcoin must be factually accurate"

from that script the guess is $230,000

I asked the same question for the year 2070 and the guess it gave was $1.6 million

A captain from Brussels took his passion for sailing and Bitcoin and set sail on his Sato Boat painted with a giant orange “B” !

Rémi discovered Bitcoin in early 2021 and has been on a mission to combine this with his longtime love of sailing. According to his own estimates, thousands of people have been exposed to the giant “B” sailing across the seas.

https://preview.redd.it/czsfqv7j3akb1.jpg?width=1642&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8878a8c22c7769255a3ba5d574ab1a8af5ac3499

Rémi remarked that, in his opinion, the best way to bring new people into the Bitcoin space is through art — even art that is flying from the mast of a ship. He also pointed out that this experience has helped him draw parallels between the ethos of Bitcoin and that of sailing.

https://preview.redd.it/2uvbwj2m3akb1.jpg?width=1156&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38bf0bd23ad3a27714b5456e098e99cbe9a5e16f

B-adorned sail helps him promote Bitcoin adoption in boat races, on beaches and across the Atlantic Ocean, where he has sailed for the past 18 months. He thinks that the best thing about this project is meeting people everywhere: Portugal, Spain, France, UK and discussing Bitcoin.

Couple questions about hard wallets.

Hey, I've recently gotten interested in Bitcoin after doing the whole shitcoin experience for a couple years.

I traded what I had into bitcoin and learned a bit about self custody. I actually find it quite fun, it's something new to learn and seems promising.

If I'm DCA'ing on a weekly basis should I transfer that to my wallet every time, or wait until I have say .005 or .002 of a bitcoin before sending? I'm just looking at the cost to transfer vs the risk of the exchange (shakepay) being compromised.

I think I know the right answer is to send always to my wallet but I'm interested to hear.

Also is it smart to have all my bitcoin in one wallet or space it into a couple. I'm guessing that also depends on how much is in there, and how adept I am at self custody.

Thanks, happy to be here been creeping for a hot minute.

BTC lightning in Minecraft at a Large Scale is an Amazing Tool For Adoption

I'm in a Minecraft server that uses Bitcoin as the server currency, so every item has a real world value and you have the ability to make real money just from playing.

There is currently a mostly vanilla SMP with land claim and an auction house to buy and sell items with other players using Bitcoin.

There is also a geopolitical/world-building world in beta right now that will feature nations, wars, and lots of lore. It's a perfect opportunity for role-playing or for players seeking world domination with a real value behind your actions.

This allows players to see the large scale potential of bitcoin as a secure monetary system through large scale trade between alliances and even an advanced commodities exchange with buy and sell orders

Kids can use bitcoin and learn to understand it while having fun and stacking sats.

Message me if you’re interested in joining or want to know more and I can send the Discord. If there are any questions I can't answer, the admins are super helpful and would gladly answer whatever questions you may have.

"How do I know that nobody else is using the same seed as me?"

To answer this common question, you need to understand what a bitcoin seed, or private key, is:

  • A bitcoin private key is a 256-bit number, or 2^256
That's the number 2 multiplied by two 256 times
  • Exponents are hard for humans to wrap their brains around them; half of 2^256 is 2^255, not 2^128
  • 2^256 expressed as a decimal number is 10^77
  • That's the number 1 and seventy-seven 0's after it; 10X10, 77 times

How big is 10 to the power 77?

  • There are between 10^16 and 10^20 grains of sand (in all of the deserts and all of the beaches and on all of the ocean floor) on Earth
  • There are 10^20 molecules of silica in a single grain of sand
  • Multiplying the number of molecules in one grain of sand (10^20) by the number of grains of sand on Earth (10^20) is 10^40

  • If you assume there's ten planets in the solar system, and assume they're all made of sand; 10^40 molecules of silica on all the grains of sand multiplied by ten is 10^41
  • There are a hundred billion stars in the milky way galaxy, or 10^11
  • 10^11 stars in the milky way multiplied by all of the molecules of silica in all the beaches on all of the planets in all of the milky way is 10^52

  • There are perhaps a hundred billion *galaxies* in the observable universe, or 10^11
  • 10^11 galaxies multiplied by all of the molecules of silica in all the beaches/oceans in all of the planets across the solar system in all of the stars in all of the galaxies is...10^63

In astrophysics, the "Eddington number" (or NEdd) is the number of atoms in the "observable universe"

The observable universe is just the part of the universe that has light that will ever reach us, or the matter that is all within the observation cone of space time that we occupy as humans; 13.8 billion light years across

*ALL\* matter - every atom of hydrogen, in the entire observable universe - is approximately 10^77
Current estimates put the NEdd at 10^80

10^77 happens to be the center of the range of estimates of the NEdd, and happens to be the maximum number of possible #bitcoin private keys

That means that every atom of matter, in the entire observable universe of over a hundred billion galaxies, could have its own #bitcoin private key

tl;dr:

Pick an atom; any atom
See if someone else picks the same one

Bitcoin in a deflationary world

So the shitcoin fiat fiasco is going deflationary now and people are going to hodl their cash like it's real money.I'm not sure how to process this in bitcoin terms: if demand for fiat increases does that mean bitcoin priced in fiat goes down? does the extra demand mean fiat liquidity dries up and the central banks print to the moon? if my horse has six legs will it run faster? I'm confused!Does anyone have a bitcoiner overview of how deflation is good for bitcoin? I think jeff booth talks about this, and everything is good for bitcoin. Also, to all those people having a rough time in the world and being forced to sell to pay bills: don't worry! How far are we away from bitcoin backed mortgages becoming popular?

As bitcoin increases in price and reduces in volatility, I imagine we start to see more mortgage companies accepting BTC backed mortgages as BTC holders will not want to sell and incur capital gains taxes. Curious if anyone has done this so far and how much farther we have to go before it’s a more popular approach to buying a house.

The Bitcoin Loaf... How much is a bitcoin worth?

People frequently inquire about the price of Bitcoin and its potential for growth. We come across various forecasts ranging from the current value to millions and beyond. Yet, a recent realization dawned on me. Our pursuit isn't truly centered around the monetary value of a single Bitcoin in dollars. We are already aware that one Bitcoin is inherently valued as 1 Bitcoin, or equivalently, 100,000,000 satoshis. The true essence of our curiosity lies in what I like to term as the "The Bitcoin Loaf." Essentially, we are intrigued by the future scenario where global economies shift away from the US dollar and all unsupported fiat currencies. In this context, we wonder: How many satoshis would it take to purchase a loaf of bread? What tangible worth will my one Bitcoin, amounting to 100,000,000 satoshis, hold in the real world? This, indeed, is the authentic inquiry driving us. It's important to remember that when Bitcoin eventually attains its genuine value, conventional US dollars or any similar currencies will cease to exist for comparison. In essence, the paramount question is: How many satoshis constitute the value of a loaf of bread? This eclipses the query of the dollar value of one Bitcoin. via /r/Bitcoin https://bit.ly/44dQrl1

How much would it cost a government to have a big impact on Bitcoin

As talked about in this debate at 16:15:https://youtu.be/zA5jnK4v884Mike green argues that it would cost only 7 billion dollars to “shut down” the bitcoin network by mining empty blocks, to which Pomp didn’t really have a rebuttal. Let’s say if the US has a lot of bitcoin and China does not, China would then be incentivised to try to break the bitcoin network and tank it’s price. via /r/Bitcoin https://bit.ly/3ODrjhV

What are the best bitcoin podcasts ?

I used to be a great fan of Andreas Antonopoulos, his podcast was usually straight to the point and I learned a lot from him.

What are nowadays the best podcasts (youtube, bitchute, spotify,...). I don't like eternal bla bla bla by the host, it feels like I am wasting my time. I am looking for high quality content and interesting guests. I would be happy if you can share your favourites here.

Hard out here for a Bitcoiner

Goddamn I feel like outside of this sub, mentioning bitcoin results in being downvoted to oblivion. It’s actually a good reminder how early we are. When people are still saying ponzi, or the largest wallets control the network, or it’s not backed by anything….pretty telling stuff. I’m referring to Reddit specifically.I feel like one of the issues is people only address it as an investment, and not as a solution to a problem. People think they missed out, or they are jaded from years of hearing people talk about it and never owning any. They write it off with surface level attacks, which only demonstrate their lack of understanding. I’ll keep stacking, I’m just mindblown how people can’t even admit, in the slightest, than maybe it at least serves a single purpose (it serves many).Cheers to the tail end of the bear season, I’m going to laugh when some of these naysayers hit their FOMO, buy at the peak, and sell for a loss without ever understanding what Bitcoin is. Hopefully a few of them have the “aha” moment. via /r/Bitcoin https://bit.ly/3scVkxH
