Crazy marketing idea: Find the hidden accepting bitcoin store in your town.

So the contest is like a treasure hunt: The first person who would spend bitcoin at the secret bitcoin store, wins a prize. The secret store would be partnering with the contest organizers, and can't advertise that they accept bitcoin until a winner is found. The store has to reveal that it's the secret store if it's simply asked "Do you take bitcoin?"

The idea is that people would run around asking in different stores "Do you take bitcoin?" and then go away! It might make one or two store owners think.

Bitcoin PRO here to fix everyone's problems!

Okay, so maybe exactly the opposite, but I figured you were all probably tired of titles like "noob here"...

Anyway, there is a noob here and I'd like to get a SMALL bitcoin miner just to check the whole thing out. Here are things I DO know:

I cannot get anything with just my computer. I need a dedicated bitcoin miner. Some of which can simply plug in to a USB port. I will almost definitely lose money in this "venture"

The thing I need to know: Do I need a special power supply? or do you have a recommendation of a small, complete package that will take care of my needs? I have seen some AntMiners that look like a fair price for a small, but fair speed. I don't know what to get though.

A new version of my I-could-now-pretend-to-be-serious miner

I originally wrote it as an exercise. Typical GPU miners made my system choppy and I was bothered by the big useless console. With this one I mine while playing games.I could now consider it a serious thing. Previous versions could not restore connection after a failure. It has been a nice trip down digital divide but as my users complained, I had to equip it with auto-reconnect machinery. An user noted (a couple of months ago) this was not provided by cudaminer/ccminer... I guess they enjoy working on the funny and profitable stuff. As a last note: I also maintain its manual.Everyone interested in knowing what PoW mining is, investigating stratum or OpenCL will hopefully find good documentation in this. Windows only. via /r/CryptoCurrency http://bit.ly/1IwBpKs

Just out of curiosity, how much of an investment in miners would it take to break even in one day? (Assuming free electricity)

Bitcoin MOD /u/jratcliff63367 makes front-page post about banning articles. Deletes it after the whole subreddit disagrees!! Ethereum still banned!!

This was the post that was on the front page: http://bit.ly/1IbW6ro The whole subreddit disagreed with him and downvoted all his posts, so he just deleted it! All other posts about the topic he was talking about still banned!! The largest ever Bitcoin crowdfunded project was launched today, but news of it was banned from this subreddit. Nobody is saying that this sub needs to turn into /r/***. BUT, ** was funded by $18,000,000.00 worth of Bitcoin, and has developed a lot of novel blockchain technology which Bitcoin should probably look at adopting. The fact that the largest Bitcoin crowd-fund in history launched today IS ON-TOPIC for this sub. By hiding and banning this technology from this sub, we are making ourselves ignorant to possible improvements we can make to Bitcoin. The mod in question above kept comparing ******* to Dogecoin saying 'Should we start posting Dogecoin articles ehre?'-- One is serious, the other is a joke. Everyone knows it. My suggestion is to modify the off-topic policy to allow posts from other crypto currencies if they have MAJOR news. i.e. Product launches, New york times, wall st journal, etc. If we turn this sub into a circl-jerk echo-chamber then we're doing ourselves a disservice. via /r/CryptoCurrency http://bit.ly/1LU7EEp

Why is Internet in Romania so damn fast, and what this suggests for the blocksize debate.

I watched this video from over at /r/Anarcho_capitalism and this got me thinking. In Romania an unlimited residential 1Gbps connection costs ~$15/month. Why shouldn't full nodes be running from Romania, Latvia or South Korea? (I know that VPS can be even cheaper and faster, but some argue that VPS full nodes are inferior to home connection full nodes). Some bitcoin devs suggest we increase the blocksize conservatively in line with the increase in bandwidth and internet speed in the US and most of the world, but it seems fairly clear that internet speed in the majority of the world is artificially suppressed by governments and monopolies. For eg. here in Sydney, Australia, I already cannot run a full node on my home connection due to the upload speed being capped at 1Mbps, despite paying over $50/month. Are we really doing right by the network if we make sure every raspberry pi on a home connection can run a full node? What about those poor bitcoiners in Cuba and North Korea? Should we wait for them to catch up, or rather for their governments to decide to break up their telco monopolies and join the free world? It seems incredibly unfair to most of the network to pursue this 'no country left behind' policy. Users in Cuba can already use SPV wallets, and if bitcoin operation becomes crucial, perhaps it will even motivate their leadership to improve their internet infrastructure.TL;DR Penalizing the entire bitcoin network to stay in line with the slowest, most oppressed countries is unfair and counterproductive. It may even motivate some countries to suppress their internet speed further. via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/1SQ1IwD

This notification just showed up today when I logged in. No reason was stated, but it must be assumed that this was a fraud mitigation decision. Bitcoin exchange CEO [Mark Karpeles] to be charged [on] suspicions of fraudulent system manipulation

The below translation or title translation is not by me, can not vouch for authenticity... original link in Japanese: http://s.nikkei.com/1It1k1h

"In the case of the virtual currency exchange MtGox which lost a large amount of bitcoin, the Metropolitan Police Department have decided to build a case against the failed operating company's CEO on charges of fraudulently producing and using private electromagnetic records, an official connected to the investigation revealed in an interview on the 30th. The CEO is suspected of fraudulently manipulating the system and inflating the bitcoin balance of fake accounts.

The suspicions concern the French CEO of the exchange's operating company MTGOX (Tokyo/Shibuya) (currently under bankruptcy proceedings).

According to the official, as there are suspicions the CEO misappropriated deposited funds by fulfilling received bitcoin buy orders from fake accounts, the Metropolitan Police Department are also looking into pursuing charges of corporate embezzlement.

Last year, such as during the press conference announcing the collapse, the CEO had explained it was likely external cyber attacks that were responsible for the disappearance of the roughly 650,000 bitcoins (at the exchange rate of the 30th worth about 23 billion yen) that were in customer accounts and elsewhere.

However, this now means that very likely a portion of the bitcoins previously considered missing were fake.

MtGox at one time held a 70% market share among the world's bitcoin exchanges.

Last February, they applied for civil rehabilitation at the Tokyo District Court.

In April of the same year, the District Court decided to commence bankruptcy proceedings."

Why is there a need for "fee pressure" if miners can choose their transactions?

I don't get this "fee pressure" argument in nearly every blocksize discussion.I understand we want to secure the blockchain, especially once the block rewards get lower. But if miners can choose themselves which transactions to include in their blocks, why is there a need to set a blocksize limit to force "fee pressure"?Wouldn't miners decide for themselves which transactions to mine? Wouldn't they simply calculate which fees are worth mining, and simply reject anything lower?Wouldn't competition drive down fees to the equilibrium between what people are willing to pay, and what miners are willing to include? Please explain to me why I'm wrong. via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/1MxaD6q

BitGold, a cryptocurrency based on gold, is currently giving away 0.25 grams of BitGold ($8.76 right now). It's basically easy costless investing. Thoughts?

This was talked very briefly about a while ago, but I thought you guys would want to know more about it. BitGold is an emerging cryptocurrency much like Bitcoin or Dogecoin, only it's based on many of the principles of gold. They are currently giving out free quarter-grams (worth $8.76 right now) to people who sign up under others' referral links, and to the people who post said links. Earlier, on July 4th, they had a promotion of $9.41 for people who signed up for BitGold that day. You can wire your funds to your bank account, to a BitGold prepaid card, or in actual, physical gold 60 days after you earn it. Soon, you'll be able to redeem your BitGold to your Bitcoin wallet. I'd advise against spending your non-crypto dollars to buy grams and ounces of BitGold (because this very well could be a waste of time and money), but I think it couldn't hurt to get some free money. NOTE: Sometimes when you sign up, you might only get $0.88, which is very weird. Thanks for reading, and please let me know what you think in the comments. :)REF LINKNON-REF LINK (you can do everything on BitGold, but you don't get the free $8.77): via /r/CryptoCurrency http://bit.ly/1fMMPhK
