S9 Exhaust Fan Replacement?
I'm thinking that an exhaust fan died on one of my miners.... It's been running fine like this for at least a day since I noticed only one fan showing up on the miner status page, but the chip temps are about 5-10 degrees warmer than the other three miners, and that intake fan is running at 6100rpm about 1500-2000rpm higher than normal. I have ducting and a blower fan connected to all my miners exhaust which could be whats keeping cool enough run. Either way I think its time to order some replacement fans, will any 6000rpm 120mm fan work?

Mining under £600 (UK) affordable start up
Hi there, so I have been doing a lot of research and... i just want to jump in and try it. However, this is just for fun for me, I am not interested in making a profit. To start I just want to start small, but I hear a lot of bad reviews on usb sticks with mining software on.
I cannot afford to jump in with a GPU, so it has to be something like the Antminer s9. This is the best for value that I have seen so far. What are your thoughts on this?
Next: would you buy it second hand or brand new. Right now brand new on amazon is £320. On ebay you are looking at £200. I think it is better to splash out and get a guarentee? Thoughts?
Or should I go cheap cheap and just play around with minor currencies and small blocks? And get the usb stick or a s6 or something ancient? I read that you get pushed out though as it just cannot compete with new software.
Next: a 1000w power supply. Brand new or second hand? I think brand new is £100. Thoughts? And does it make a difference which one?
Next: is a hard drive to store bitcoins necessary? I think thats about £60 on amazon.
Next: PSU, is it worth it? Is it worth looking into over clockers?
I want to keep my initial investment below £500, if I make that back I will re invest it :)
Any help would be great!!

Remember the Pineapple Fund
For those who weren't around to witness the Pinapple Fund, you should learn about the Pineapple Fund. Tonight I'm raising a glass in thanks to u/PineappleFund and their generosity.
Pineapple Fund was an experiment in philanthropy with cryptocurrency wealth. What happens when your 'play-money' becomes a treasure chest, and you're past the satiety point of money?
I decided to donate the majority of my cryptocurrency to charities around the world, with an open application process and funding charities big and small. I focused on causes I believe in, or causes I know will work from my experiences.
Timed with the 2017 crypto bubble, 5104 BTC was turned into $55 million for charities. I'm happy and proud of the impact that will come, mostly thanks to the amazing charities and the dedicated people behind them.
I'm going to remain anonymous, because the point of the Pineapple Fund is not me. I consider this project a success. If you're ever blessed with crypto fortune, consider supporting what you aspire our world to be :)

How Much Per kWh Can Bitcoin Mining Make?
Due to an oversized solar array, I have about 10 kW of unused energy per hour during daylight hours. How much can you make per kWh in Bitcoin assuming your electrical cost is zero?
If part of that answer is "it depends on your mining hardware" then could someone supply a table showing the current market cost for each kind of miner and the expected power draw in kW of each model? Which mining hardware would give the most mining power per dollar spent?
This mining profitability calculator seems to give the main variables.
https://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/bitcoin-mining-calculator/?h=23000.00&p=1541.00&pc=0.0&pf=0.00&d=5106422924659.82000000&r=12.50000000&er=3895.50000000&hc=0.00 Do I just need to plug in my expected hash rate, energy consumption in watts, and electrical cost of zero?
This article seems to suggest that in Jan 2018 the break-even price was $3900 per bitcoin, which corresponded to an electrical cost of 3 cents per kWh.
https://medium.com/@hodlmodel/breakeven-price-of-btc-mining-i-bitmains-49-hashrate-694a5699fa37 Obviously that was a different world than today, but I wonder if things would be migrating - when bitcoin pricing is falling sharply - towards that break-even electrical cost of 3 cents per kWh. If yes, mining bitcoin with the available free electricity seems like a poor investment.

Jumping on the Mining craze (In the UK) Wanting advice please
It seems with the stock market of bitcoin becoming more stable that it is a good time to jump on to Bitcoin and Alt coin mining. This is not because I want passive income or to get rich, I just want to learn and be pro-active. Electricity is not a problem. However, start up capital is.
I have low (average) spec computers and a small budget - but very low cost electricity. I do not mind if it is not profitable as I just want to learn and get into it. I want to start by Solo mining but I am open to cloud mining as well. I have been told it is best to start with lower currencies to learn the software as you find more blocks more often (lower value).
First question: Is it best to start with a BitMain antminer USB to the computer or to go all in with an old S9 Antminer or to go brand new? I want to keep my initial investment low to learn the software and system. So I am thinking the BitMain Antminer is best for me (around £45-55) rather than a second hand s9 Antminer (£200-300). Please can you tell me some good start up software to buy from ebay etc.
Second question: This is related to the initial set up of the piece of software in question and how to decrypt blocks when found.
Any further advice/help would be greatly appreciated - I am going to be buying some software and doing some more research in the next week. I have a E-Wallet on CoinBase and BlockChain already as I own a few cyrpto-currency at the moment.
Thank you for your time!

Bitcoin Mining for a Noob
I've gone through this forum a bit but to be honest, it's all pretty overwhelming and I'm not sure where to start.
That said, this isn't my first rodeo and I've been in the BTC world for a while now and have just finished setting up my CASA Node and I want to do more.
(The node is pretty cool, by the way. It did take a few hours to set up with port-fwding and what not, but it really was an enjoyable experience. I don't expect to make any money with it, but as the proud owner of both a BTC and LN node, I'm proud to be contributing to the network; which is why I'm now looking at mining a little more seriously.)
I have no intention of turning a profit, but if I can come close to at least break-even on the electricity costs with pooled mining that would be nice. I have no concerns regarding initial capital investment in equipment as I have just liquidated some old BTG that had been sitting on a paper wallet for forever. Probably should have cashed those out when they were floating around $350USD and not a $14, but dem the bricks. I didn't have the software to do it at the time, but I still made a killing dumping my BCH! haha!
My main question is regarding if this is really within the reach of a non power-user? I have very scant experience with command line code, but if the guide is simple enough, I'm sure I can follow things step by step.
I'm thinking of getting a used miner and rack. Just one should be fun to play around with to start obviously. If anyone has recommendations for rigs and set-ups, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Who else feels really good about buying in right now?
48 hours remain until 2019, and bitties are hella cheap right now. 2018 is done, 2019 is... hell, NO ONE has any idea what the fuck is about to happen in 2019. Not just for bitcoin, but for anything. We're quite literally in.. brand new territory. We're pioneers on this new, futuristic horizon. I can tell that 2019 is going to be a good year. It feels so damn good. Things are going to change. Things are going to get turned over. Things are going to take off.
I believe that. And I feel that right now, Bitcoin is the cheapest that it will be, for a very long time. Now is the fucking time.
No one is talking about Bit. This is the time. I tasted success in the last run. Bitcoin actually seems to make its big changes at a yearly basis. I don't think it's coincidence that going into 2019, it is so low.
My stocks have been suffering, which leads me to believe that the dollar is.. more volatile than it has been in recent years. This gives me more reason to believe that Bitcoin will re-emerge as a currency. I believe people will say "Oh YEAH. Remember that crypto currency that blew up last year? Let's look into THAT."
Banks will realize the power of Bitcoin. Businesses. Well, more businesses (A LOT of vendors accept Bitcoin these days, if you simply inquire about it.) will.
I'm feeling so damn good about this. For people that bought in at 6500k or higher, maybe for you, this sucks. But for us getting in right now, there's no better feeling.
Let's jig off this bitcoin in 2019 boys.

caught http://bit.ly/2BMFKuM wallet red-handing trying to steal bitcoin keys!
Before installing electrum god in a virtual machine, I had disconnected its network adapter. The wallet really did not like this, and terminated with the following python error:
urllib3.exceptions.MaxRetryError: HTTPConnectionPool(host='
ethereumdark.io
', port=80): Max retries exceeded with url: /electrum/seeds.php?seed=wife+scar+free+royal+...+grey (Caused by NewConnectionError('<urllib3.connection.HTTPConnection object at 0x7fafcf62cb38>: Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno -2] Name or service not known',))
It immediately tried to reach the ethereumdark.io site with a view on transmitting the electrum seed to the /electrum/seeds.php?seed={seed} script.
If you want to reproduce the thefting attempt, do the following:
[1] install Virtualbox or similar
[2] create a virtual machine
[3] download the wallet from https://electrumgod.org
[4] download system-level dependencies: sudo apt-get install python3-setuptools python3-pyqt5 python3-pip
[5] download python3-level dependencies: cd electrum; sudo python3 -m pip install .
[6] disconnect the virtual machine from the network
[7] run: ./electrum
[8] generate a new seed during first run in the startup wizard
[9] watch the abnormal end while the wallet tries to upload your seed to ethereumdark.io
REMARK: This should remind you that whatever else you do, you should NEVER allow the secrets to touch the network.
That is why it is so important to export unsigned transaction to the network-disconnected signer (virtual) machine, sign the transaction there, and import the signed transaction back to the network-connected viewer (virtual) machine.
In that case, even if the wallet is subverted, corrupted, or infected, it will not be able to steal your secrets.

Quick Update
17,450,000 bitcoins have been mined over the last ten years (83%).
3,550,000 left to mine over the next one hundred odd years (17%).
Fifteen years is enough time for any new technology to gain mainstream adoption, so if mainstream adoption is going to occour chances are it will happen within the next five years.
Over the next five years only 1,971,000 bitcoins will be mined. That is only 11% of the amount of new bitcoin we have mined over the last decade.
If new demand does nothing but stay the same we will see fire works due to this massive supply reduction over the next five years. If demand flows into the realm of institutional finance well, you do the math.
Only 11% of the supply mixed with one hundred times the demand, that would mean 2017 was a warm up just to get you all ready for whats coming.
On a serious note it blows my mind how people still dismiss this fact. They cannot grasp the idea of digital scarcity.
If you told anyone with a brain that over the next five years the new supply of mined gold was going to fall by 89% compared with the last decade, and at the same time the first gold ETF is going to launch making gold available to own on traditional brokerage platforms, they would say motherfucker that sounds like the biggest investment opportunity of a lifetime. Yet thats exactly whats happening with bitcoin and the masses remain completely dismissive.
Their loss is our gain.
