What do y'all think about the current pros and cons for CEXs and DEXs? Can you foresee a day that we no longer have to build up the relationship with other institutions but wholly based on a trustlessness bond? I believe the blockchain tech sooner or later will improve the security and SAVE our $$.

This IS the Bitcoin Explained Book you should be sharing with people who KNOW NOTHING about Bitcoin and tech

Being someone who has been investing and heavily building services on Bitcoin, Ethereum and alike public blockchains for the last few years, I often get asked about the Bitcoin by friends and family. And while I do enjoy talking about it over and over, it did occur to me at some point that the lack of understanding of the technology IS one of the reason (if not the main reason) for what seems to be a fairly slow pace of adoption. It's been over 10 years now and still most of the action is in trading space :( We have crypto exchanges exceeding billion USD daily in turnover and yet not a single widely known online retailer accepting crypto! So, after two years of being in the building part of the ecosystem, I decided to put some time aside and work on that "adoption issue", starting with my friends and family. Unfortunately, nearly all current onboarding guides on the subject are still way too complicated for the mainstream. The mainstream audience knows nothing about the technical aspects of the blockchain and the originating concepts like UTXOs, proof of work, hashing, mining, private keys and the list goes on and on. Combine that with the fact that most people don't really understand traditional financial systems they are left somewhat clueless not only about WHAT Bitcoin is but also WHY it was created in the first place. So, long story short, I decided to write a guide that both my friends and relatives would be able to grasp without compromising on some essential elements of the Bitcoin blockchain. This is my first onboarding guide for someone with zero-knowledge in the field.http://bit.ly/2qSr3nZ! via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/36nrbvU

I am now officially taking LIGHTNING payments on my online store. Here's the rundown on how I got it done.

E-commerce is a tricky bitch, but if you can manage to understand the psychology of selling a product online and you learn the skills to allow for a seamless transaction, then you're in for a career that you own and control.

A few days ago, I told the community about my progress i accepting Bitcoin on my apparel store. We're getting around 50-60k impressions every month, a lot of eyes and transactions around a small operation like ours. Nevertheless, the mere fact that we're accepting Bitcoin as a payment option goes to show the possibility of driving this mainstream. Let me elaborate:

Shopify just announced that they crossed 1 million merchants on the platform. Bitcoin is being offered as a NATIVE checkout option via Coinbase Commerce. However, this is where things fall apart. Here's why:

  • Few people want to spend their Bitcoin
  • Those that do want to spend it and believe in its future as a currency don't trust Coinbase

So, I got to work. I did my research and realized that language around Lightning always involves speedy transactions without intermediaries. This implies that the community that revolves around lightning is slightly different and actually prefers to spend their Bitcoin in support of the idea of Bitcoin as a currency. Whether they spend and buy again is a whole other issue.

With this in mind, and based off a recommendation by u/bitcoinusuario, I ran into a small startup out of California called Opennode. I reached out to them directly, told them about the community's recommendation of their platform, and we got to work on an integration with Shopify. Fortunately, they had already begun work on this and offer it right out of the box. They ran me through an expedited approval process, I got a hold of the API keys and BAM:

WE ARE INTEGRATED WITH SHOPIFY! (find the new integration at the bottom)

The way it works is:

  1. A customer lands on the store and adds their items to their cart
  2. He clicks checkout and is presented with the quick one-click payment integrations that are native to the platform (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, and PayPal). You can't expect me to get rid of these 😇
  3. If he wants to pay with a credit card or installment payments, he skips this and proceeds by entering his email address and shipping information.
  4. In the final screen of checkout, he's once more presented with all his payment options. Bitcoin is there!
  5. Once selected, you click complete payment and you're taken to the payment's screen for Opennode. LIGHTNING IS NOW AN OPTION!

I'm not sure you understand how crazy this is guys. Bitcoin and Lightning are sitting next to the ranks of the world's biggest payment processors. What I'm working on now is getting more language right below the quick checkout buttons that point to Bitcoin as a payment option. I do not have access to the checkout.liquid files with my current plan, so this will have to come next year. Nevertheless, I'm thrilled to have accepted my first Bitcoin transaction yesterday. I had a few transactions go through with my older integration, but I'm happy the order went through seamlessly, the items were shipped, they got their tracking information, and they are now on their way to the customer.

Now, it's just a matter of getting other merchants to accept it. So it's up to YOU to start requesting this from every single merchant you buy from. Send them a quick email and say: Can you please accept Bitcoin? It's as simple as that. Don't give them shit for accepting credit cards through banks. You guys gave me hell because I was accepting Bitcoin via Coinbase Commerce. I admit, I did it because it was quick and it offers Litecoin and Ethereum as additional payment options. So if you would like to see these 2 back, please let me know in the comments!

If you run a store on Shopify, Woo Commerce, PrestaShop or OpenCart,, please consider adding Bitcoin as a payment option. If you're thinking about opening up a store, go here to see it in action and DM me with any questions on how to get started in e-commerce. If you have any suggestions on how to get the word out on stores that are currently accepting Bitcoin, I'm all ears.

One last thing. The reason why I can't skip Opennode and go completely native is that the experience HAS TO BE SEAMLESS for the customer. Sending out an e-mail to the customer with a wallet address is barbaric and unrealistic. This, however, is a step in the right direction.

Cheers guys and thanks for reading. Carry on!

Hey there, looking for help on mining

I was just wondering if any of the veteran miners here see my build and see any potential in it. Yes it is a current gaming rig and I also started NiceHash last night and have a mine rate of .03307 BTC a day and .30day. Is this the smartest route to take? Hash I mean.

I went on a website and they said that the gtx 1080 can get 144 dollars a month which is not what mine can do. It’s running at 100% usage and I am using nice hash. Chase bank just reversed my fraudulent reimbursement on basis that they believe the company in question is legitimate and I must have forgotten I bought $180 worth of BS supplements from them.

Last month I noticed two $90 charges (from a company I have never heard of) in one of my Chase accounts. This particular account is only used for automatic payments like my mortgage, utilities, investments, Netflix subscription, etc. So no single payments should occur, let alone more than once a month.

I contacted Chase and they said my card could be compromised and to order a new one. They reimbursed me for the $180 and I ordered a new card. All is good, except the card took 20 days to get here but thats another story.

Anyways, I look today at my account and notice ANOTHER $90 charge from this company, and I scroll down to find out that they REVERSED MY REIMBURSEMENT. I contacted them and they basically said Chase doesn't believe this to be a fraud charge and reversed the decision. I MUST be buying something from this online store that I am not remembering.

So this is my life now. I'll get randomly billed $90 because my bank doesn't think it's fraud, and canceling my card again won't help.

Obviously I'm not accepting this and will fight Chase tooth and nail but I just had to vent how rediculous it is to work with banks.

Venezuela UPDATE "living" here. 1 BTC is around 230,000,000 Bs (Bolivares). Two weeks ago it was 154,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is around 7 USD (it was 8 USD before). 552 BTC were traded last week using LBTC (last week was 549) which is around 80,900,000,000 Bs. AMA.

Hello, it is me just updating the situation here in Venezuela. You can check my post history if this is the first time you read about me.

Minimum wage (which is earned by a big chuck of the population, not like other countries) is 150.000 Bs. wage (7 USD) + 150.000 Bs. food bonus (7 USD) PER MONTH.

Biggest bank note is 50,000 Bs. which is around 2 USD. You need to use debit and credit, bank transfer, cryptos and USD to pay anything.

This after 5 zeroes were shaved from the currency less than a year ago and 3 zeroes more 12 years ago. So it would be 5,000,000,000,000 Bs.

Official rate (Venezuelan Central Bank http://bcv.org.ve/ ) is 20.454 Bs. per each USD.

I have officially reached a post-price mindset

I didn't particularly care as Bitcoin's price trended downward over the last few weeks. I also didn't feel much joy at the large spike the other day.

It made me realize that I have reached a place where:

1) price is no longer my primary motivational factor with Bitcoin. I care more about the global potential of a non-sovereign, decentralized money. 2) large price swings when we're still so early overall really don't mean much.

I have to say, it feels good. Price will keep swinging, but Bitcoin always moves forward.

What's y'all vision on the crypto utopia? I honestly think blockchain is good on decentralizing out the third parties, improving the security and the cost-efficiency but it still have a long way to go. This week's Libra hearing reinforce my thoughts coz the US govt is still reluctant with the tech.

does anyone else find that keeping your Bitcoin safe is a big responsibility?

it's not easy, sometimes I feel stressed I have to be very careful of what I'm doing and think alot before I actually do what I want to dotoday I went out and bought an old cheap desktop with a new ssd which I download the blockchain and plan to start a new wallet and use it as a savings account.I will only plug in my second desktop when I need to send money from my Bitcoin savings account to my Bitcoin spending accountI got a second desktop so I don't have to worry about anyone hacking it or getting a virus. it will be offline most times not even the internet cable plugged inon my first desktop I have a full node running 24/7 and only about a max of 100 dollars on itit's not easy being your own bank but it is paying off in the long run since I've been into Bitcoin for several years now, unlike the real banks where my money is always devaluatingI know my way around computers more than the average person so I am confident most timesbut how does everyone else do things, im am assuming most people here are all very computer savvy?I can't imagine anyone in my family doing all things, they are clueless about computers and technology via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/2omfKna

Green internal light is on but no status lights (red or green) Antminer s9k

I read it takes almost 10 minutes to get the miner fully started. It's been about 20, and the inside green light is on but there's no status light. Could this be from it not being connected to the internet? I currently have it connected to my computer that's connected over wifi. So, I was thinking maybe I'm not getting a status light because it's not connected to the internet to download firmware or something?

All info is appreciated thank you!

Solved:Straight from the horses mouth, " If both lights are off, there are three possibilities: The network cable is not plugged in well. Re-plug it. The control board is bad. Replace with a good one to test. The switch is not powered. Power on the switch. " lol (talking about the green light and ethernet light)

Can I plug my miner into my wifi computer or no lol

My miner just came today, I want to set it up in my room with my wifi computer. Can I do this? Or do I need a router? Would I follow roughly the same steps when connecting it to my computer using wifi?

Recovered my 4 year old wallet

I am super stoked about this. A long time ago (2011-2015), on an old machine (an iMac), I used Armory. I was selling that old machine, so I swept my keys into an electrum wallet, and I replaced the hard drive that was in it knowing one day I would come back to it.

Well, a couple years after that, I had issues because I couldn't access the files from that hard drive without another mac (trust me, I tried. I password protected that hard drive so only booting it from a legit mac would grant me access to it). And, I lost my paper backup... Luckily, my friend had an old mac mini he let me borrow, and I sat on it for about another 2 years.

Today, I finally pulled my wallet off, and could not remember the password I put on the wallet. Thank god for the btcrecover tool, because that cracked my password in under a second (I remembered what it could of been, but not exactly. I would have not guessed what it actually was).

It's not a huge amount of bitcoin. But it was more than I remembered keeping (more than 1). Still face-palming though at some of my transactions. I had my armory wallet going back to 2012. Sooooo many bitcoins went through that wallet, mining on slush with my petty mac GPU. I had one of the first OG ASIC butterfly 60GH/s miners too. If only I had kept more, I could quit my day job now. Oh well.

But, I thought I'd share an antitheses to the old "I lost my old wallet. please help!!!" posts. Probably going to continue sitting on it for a few more years. And now that I've regained interest, I'm going to start running a full node again. To the moon!

At $10,000 there is $28 worth of btc for each person on earth.

If you have more than $28 in bitcoin today you have more than the average person ever will in the future.

Bitcoin´s Prehistory

http://bit.ly/346IxLG via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/2Ng4aCr

Who treats bitcoin like their savings account?

I started to think this way around March/April this year, when price was around 4-5k. I figured my rate of return on keeping my money in the bank, was a small percentage at best, and was sold on the hype that the next halvening can bring. In my opinion and in real time practical application, ya'll can see this worked well for me. Now im wondering, who else is does this?I really think its ingenious and ive converted many people into this idea, simply because NOW is the time to best accumulate and hold bitcoin for at least another 18 months...although the same most likely will not hold true after this hype cycle, just like having this idea in 2018 wouldnt have done you many favors.Thoughts? Long bitcoin, short the bankers. Yes sir. via /r/Bitcoin http://bit.ly/2WjlSJw
