Honest question, how much longer can we expect to be able to mine bitcoins before a possible Proof of Stake switch?

Could an individual make money mining bitcoins? What about a warehouse of computers? Can people make money mining still, and for how long? How does Proof of Stake switch affect mining operations? Is it a good idea to set up a new major mining operation still? Thanks!
