The Bitcoin traveller just nailed it: not one line of code from nChain. "It's pretty clear now Craig Wright has done more lines of coke than lines of code since he joined #bitcoin" Just hot air, no code whatsoever, not even a suggestion, a proposel, anything.
Do we have enough posts about FakeSatoshi yet? Why give this particular individual any of our time?
The thing I like about Satoshi is he came across as humble and wise; The thing I don't like about Craig Wright is he comes across as arrogant loudmouthed and he isn't Satoshi

What GPU is best for mining right now?
I’m thinking about building a GPU rig but I can’t really find a solid answer on what graphic card is superior. 1070, 470, 480, 570, 580?
Edit: I don’t really care about the unavailability of the cards. Straight up stats.

I am mining in the desert using 100% solar and I am profitable
I have 7 greenhouses in theSouthwest desert. I have twenty-five S9 miners inside these greenhouses. They are all running 100% off grid with solar and battery power.
I posted my numbers for this mining operation in the desert a few hours ago but it was downvoted into obscurity. Here is the link if anyone is interested:
Anyhow, I kinda think that this sub is controlled by miners. I want to test this out to see if it might be true. Cuz...maybe I am just being weird and got it wrong. For the record, I am often wrong.
So here it goes...I have documented my mining operation over the last year here on Reddit. I detailed my idea from when it was just an idea all the way to today, where I have a fully functional and profitable bitcoin mining operation in the middle of the desert....not connected to the grid at all. I am about to go all-in and buy 1,000 miners for the September shipment of new S9's.
Here are the numbers for mining, for those of you who are interested. You will need 6 kw of solar panels. And you will need 15 deep cycle lead-acid batteries (24V/200 amp hours each). And a power control system. I buy the batteries from China for $180 each. I pay $0.45 per watt for solar panels. Total cost for the off grid solution for ONE miner is $6800. It costs so little because I found the suppliers on AliBaba and negotiated my pricing. I am happy to share the suppliers with anyone who is interested (no one will be interested).
Cost for one S9 is $1225 landed on your door in the US. Total cost for the off grid mining solution is $8,000. I make .007 btc per day from each miner. This is about $18 per day at the current price. I make about $300 profit on each miner by reselling it (used). I can buy and sell these miners EVERY time there is a production run from Bitmain. I get in early and secure my order. Then I slowly sell them until the next batch is close to shipping.
I am pretty sure that there are LOTS of miners doing this and they don't want anyone else doing it. They are afraid of flooding the resell market. And they are afraid of increasing demand for miners. And I am pretty sure those people are now running this sub. But again, maybe I am wrong. We'll see...
Basically, I feel that there is a real effort to dissuade people from mining so that miners can continue to do this.
I purchase in advance from Bitmain and secure the lower pricing. I buy 100 miners and I run 25 of them. I then begin to resell the remainder of my miners. There is such a long gap between shipments from Bitmain that the price just keeps going up and I profit on the resell of these machines. Meanwhile, I am using them to mine until they sell.
By reselling the miners I am making sure I am current with the fastest miners. I also profit from buying 100 miners early in the cycle to resell.
I have NO idea why this happens, but every time I post about mining and talk about how I have found what I believe to be an awesome idea for small to medium sized miners, I am down voted and called a liar and con man by a lot of people here.
So, I am testing my hypothesis. I think that one of three things will happen to this post: (1) it is down voted to obscurity (2) I am relentlessly called out for being a liar and con man (3) no one cares.
For the record, this should be a post that is read by many people here. I am not trying to say that it is the most amazing thing that someone will read here. But, this is exactly the type of post that should have people discussing in a bitcoin forum.
Anyhow, for those who are interested, this info is not a FAKE POSTING. The numbers are real. I am highly profitable. I wish others would do the exact same thing. I want everyone to be mining.

Update (not for profit) : bitcoin moved!
Hello everyone!
2 years ago, you folks helped Family Enrichment and Counselling Services retrieve 1 full bitcoin in donations (19YHQ2c7YDGt6CMa9hcVAouahrjbFGBqT5) . This counselling service helps to subsidize services for those in need within the greater Fredericton region in New Brunswick, Canada. See this link for details.
I am writing to let you folks know that we have used the funds recently. The money has gone towards the further subsidization of the services, paying for counsellors and expenses. We recently lost some funding as a result of stricter budgets after conservative party budget changes from a few years ago, so this money really came in handy. In particular, our 5k grant typically received through United Way was not renewed this fiscal year.
I wanted to thank you folks once again for all that you have done for us.

I have a question for anyone in the Americas actually mining with S9's.
Hope this sub isn't completely dead.
I just ordered a couple of S9's and will be running them here in northern freedom land. Each will have its own dedicated breaker. My question is, will my 15A 120V breakers be able to handle them without tripping?
Someone who mined with them before told me no, but by my calculations it's a Yes.
I'll be running each one through an EVGA 1600W supply. Since the S9's only draw ~1400W, the PSU will only draw 1400 from the breaker. The breakers each provide 1440 watts:
(120v * 15A = 1800w)*.80% = 1440w
We use an 80% load rule here so that's what the breakers are set to unless you use some kind of 'continuous 'breakers or simply swap em out for higher amperage.
That's my only question for now, thanks in advance!

.64 BTC in Mountain View California
Thank you for traveling with me.
This last location is special. It represents our past and informs our future. Bitcoin will be as transformational, if not more, than the exhibits you will see.
We are on the cusp of a massive change, the knee of the curve, and Bitcoin's countdown to greatness has already begun.
The location is the computer history museum in Mountain view california. it will cost you money to get in. only go in if you are interested in the exhibits. it will probably be gone by the time you get there. set your expectations appropriately. take this as an opportunity to learn and think about how we will transform the world with bitcoin.
there will be few, if any, clues. the museum is small enough and you are smart enough to figure it out. i reserve the right to be capricious.
be good to each other and enjoy the museum. and the hunt. let us know when you find it. i might be inclined to reward a good picture of the winner (pm me the privkey and I will juice things up for a public reddit pic of the winner).

Bitcoin Blues
About five years ago I left home for university. I left my parents house and went to live in a big city in the north. I got there and didn't know anybody. In particular, I didn't know any weed dealers... I then discovered a nifty site on the deep web where you could buy drugs using a strange online-only currency called "Bitcoin". It took me a little while but I eventually figured out a way to get hold of them. Being in the UK it was apparently a bit more tricky than in the US. My first attempt involved buying the currency used in the game "Second Life", which I then converted into bitcoins. I bought 12 coins to buy £60 worth of weed. I spent them all. Over the next year I continued to buy weed with bitcoins. The price went up a bit, but obviously it didn't affect me as I always spent them immediately. After a while I found a proper dealer so I didn't need to use the site anymore. I forgot about bitcoins.
A couple of years later I hear about them again through word of mouth. I think it's because the price had just crashed. Down to £300 per Bitcoin from £600. I was pretty shocked that they were worth so much more than I remembered. I checked my wallet, I had £90 worth left over. This is where I made my second mistake. I thought, they can't possibly go any higher, so I figured I'd cash out and buy some more weed.
Fast forward three more years. I finished university, I have a full time job and I've quit smoking weed. I see a gif on this subreddit with a motorcycle driver just barely hanging on and finishing the race. I check the current going rate for 1 bitcoin. £2,000 each. I check my wallet. 0.0002 bitcoins remain from my old stoner days.
Fuck my life.
Anybody else come across bitcoins early on but didn't have the foresight to hold on to them?

I don't want to spend too much on mining and am looking to buy a USB miner. Put links to miners if you recommend any. thanks. I understand that you might have to invest in like an ant miner or something. But again I am just asking if USB miners are worth the 💰.

Looking to buy a asic miner, some questions
So I recently got into crypto currencies and would like to contribute and get more involved with everything.
I am thinking of getting a cheap asicminer like the Antminer S5. My company has already a bunch of servers standing around and has because of that a cheaper agreement with the power companies here. I am thinking of just leaving the thing under my table, use it for learning more about bitcoins and forget it the other days.
So my questions:
- Solo vs Pool. The way I see it is that one miner alone will not give me a lot of power, but the chance of getting lucky and occasionally hitting a hash through pure luck seems to be a possibility? Given the setup, what would be a average payout if joining a pool?
- I am not that familiar with the differences in coins, but can the antminers be setup to mine other coins easily? For example if I want to point it towards etherum. How feasable is it to automatically split mining time on each coin?
- Are these usually just linux boxes that allow me to setup my own software?
I read on some reports that the s5 is way too loud and inefficient for mining. Can you recommend something else that would be better for a beginner and potentially more silent?
/ EDIT: looks like I just answered a question of mine: The antminers can only mine SHA-256 based coins, so Etherum would be out. Are there any alternatives that could?

Uber and Lyft should allow drivers to accept bitcoin
I think both companies would benefit greatly if they allowed drivers to accept bitcoin payments for a number of reasons. First, a lot of the drivers that I have rode with, especially in larger cities, are foreign and in talking to them, a lot send money back home. If bitcoin were accepted, this money would be safer and easier to send. Second, it would be a great PR move for both companies as they both promote themselves as technology companies. Lastly, it would allow for more privacy and security with payments. Many credit/debit card users are uneasy about keeping their card information on a third party application or a mobile device.
Any thoughts?
