Does an S9 running from an awp++, plug into a PDU (which i just read does not have surge protection) need surge protection?

PDU Tripp Lite PDUH32HV And if you are really knowledgable, is there any reason NOT to lay an S9 on its side? Nothing but jokes last night when I asked that question.

Does any of that equipment need a "chassis lug" for the PDU to be grounded?
